May 2010

May 2010 was a good month with the big Spring Trophy Stripers being caught through May 16. Then for the remainder of the month we did a mixture of trolling with smaller lures and light tackle chumming. We had to work a little harder this May then we had to the last few springs, but we still managed to catch our limit on almost every trip, and we ran two charters every day from May 1 through May 16. Enjoy the pics………..

June 2010

Fishing was good overall this month, Rockfishing was good, but not great. Early in the month live lining was excellent, then we had to work our butts off to find and catch rockfish. Most days with lots of effort we would capture our limit of Rockfish. The Croaker fishing was also good this month in the evenings, numbers were great and the size was ok.

On June 21, I headed south to target Cobia and Red Drum from VA Beach. This year we had a few good days and a few slow days fishing for these huge and awesome fighting fish. On our best afternoon trip we landed 11 huge red drum over 35 lbs and our best cobia trip was 5 keepers. All in all a good trip down south, with the exception of the last few days we were there, when cold water from the Ocean pushed into the mouth of the Bay and slowed the bite to a stop.

Looking forward to getting back down there next year to chase these fun fighting fish again.

July 2010

July fishing was good overall, with some amazing top water lure fishing for Rockfish early in the month when the fish showed themselves. The evening Croaker fishing was incredible this year in July, with some of the largest Croakers I have ever seen being caught. Several evenings we caught our limit of 25 per man in less than 2 hours. Towards the end of the month, when we targeted them the Bluefish bite was very good also.

August 2010

August fishing was of mixed results with the super hot temps we were dealt. Rockfishing was either feast or famine, as the hot temps had the fish tightly schooled. When the fish showed themselves and broke the surface the fishing action was excellent, and when they did not show themselves they were difficult to find and catch. Luckily the Bluefish and Croaker fishing were excellent. The Croaker bite remained very good through the third week of August. And the Bluefish bite continued through the entire month.

September 2010

September was a good month of fishing for the MISS SUSIE. The Rockfish which were very tricky to catch during the dog days of summer showed back up in excellent numbers and we were able to catch them with a wide array of methods from top water lure casting , jigging, live lining and trolling. Bluefish were also very abundant and provided us with lots of action. The Spanish Mackerel bite was good for only a few days early in the month, but it did provide us with a decent catch of these tasty fish for a few trips.
The live lining using live spot for bait just picked up a few days ago and as the water cools and more fish move to structure, the bite should only get better. October should be a great month for live lining and also a great month for casting and trolling for breaking Bluefish. Then in November, the Trophy Stripers will arrive in our waters. And for the months of November and December we will be catching these huge Stripers from 30 inches to over 50 inches. For the last few fall seasons, the very best bite for these trophy fish has been in our own backyard, and this season we hope for a repeat.
Here is a list of dates still available for Fall fishing aboard MISS SUSIE………
October 12, 14, 17 am ½ day only, 19, 20, 21, 23 am ½ day only, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31

December 1, 7, 9, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19

October 2010

The first two weeks of this month have showcased some excellent live lining for Rockfish and Bluefish.  The Rockfish we are now catching range in size from 18 inches to the mid 30 inch mark.  The Bluefish are between 1 and 5 pounds in size.  The larger Rockfish (over 28 inches) are not biting every trip, but the rockfish bite has been excellent, with lots of action and limits filled on every trip.  The bottom fishing close to home has been very good for bait sized spot, with  a few keeper sized spot, croaker, and white perch every trip.  The red hot live lining action should continue for the next two weeks, before we switch up to trolling for the fall Trophies.   Sometime over the first week of November the Fall Trophies will be in our area, and we will be catching Stripers from 20 lbs to over 50 lbs everyday.  Below, I have listed dates available for the rest of October and also dates available for the fall trophy run.

61 pounds and 4 oz. says it all!!!!  The largest Striper ever landed on the MISS SUSIE or the FIN FINDER and the largest Striper I have ever seen.  The monster of a fish bit a double rigged white parachute.  The bait she ate was a 12 oz white parachute with a 12″ white shad.  The lighter bait on the same double rig had a 34 inch fish hooked up at the same time.  What a catch!!!!!  I knew the fish was big, but I was not sure if it was heavier than my personal best 57.00 lbs which was landed in 2005.  The scales at Rudee’s Inlet Station Marina proved this fish was my personal best.  The fish measured 52 inches in length.
The fishing action down here in VA Beach continues to be very good.  And we have a few slots still available…..

For a single day trip we have February 11th still open

For the two day package deal we have February 18/19   or   February 24/25 still open.

Thanks and enjoy the pics of a really special fish…

Our 2008 Chesapeake Bay Season ended with a bang with some of the finest Trophy Striper fishing known to mankind. The fall trophy season this past year was without a doubt one of the best fall trophy seasons most can remember. Lots of big fish close to home, it just doesn’t get much better. Since the Chesapeake Bay season closes on December 31 and the fishing action is red hot in VA Beach, Virginia we move operations to the still open season waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Captains Log August 08′

The Spanish are here!!!!!!!!  The Spanish Mackeral arrived in abundant numbers just a few days ago.   Yesterday we targeted them for about 3 hours and landed 49 between 15 inches and 26 inches.  While trolling for the Spanish Mackeral we also landed a good handful of small (eating sized) Blues and Rockfish.  The Spanish Mackeral should stick around our area thru all of September and with the good numbers already here this should be a great early fall season for the Macs.  The bottom fishing for Spot in the Patuxent River slowed early in August, but over the last few days has heated up to the wide open status.  In fact today (8/19) we ran an afternoon bottom fishing trip and in less than 3 hours of fishing our crew of 7 anglers had landed 439 large and Jumbo Spot.

The nighttime fishing for Croakers was excellent thru 8/13 with limits of 25 per man almost every night, but since then the bite has slowed as it does normally in late August.  Because of the slowing and seemingly inconsistant Croaker bite, we have ran our last nighttime Croaker trip for the 2008 season on 8/18.  The live lining for Rockfish stayed very good thru late last week and since then has been a little hit or miss.  And with the massive numbers of breaking fish available we have been spending much of our time chasing Mackeral, Blues and Rockfish trolling and casting lures.  The Live Linning will heat back up any day now and as soon as mid September gets here the Rockfish will migrate to structure and be very easy to target with live Spot.  The excellent live linning will continue thru late October, in fact last year we caught good numbers of fish over 30 inches on live bait thru the first week of November.

The larger Bluefish from 4 to 8 lbs have finally arrived to their feeding grounds and are biting very good, especially in the afternoons.  Last Friday afternoon we landed 130 Bluefish from 4 to 8 lbs in less than 2 hours time.  This hot Bluefish bite should continue until the second or third week of October.

Don’t miss out on the red hot fall fishing we have the next two months, book your charter today!!!
