Booking and Charter Info


  • The FIN FINDER II normally departs from Harbor Island Marina in Solomons, MD (directions are located in the Directions Link on the right).  However, if the fishing is significantly better well to the North, we will be fishing out of Happy Harbor in Deale, MD or if the fishing is significantly better to the South, we will be fishing out of Point Lookout Marina in Ridge, MD.  And for about 4 weeks late summer, the FIN FINDER II will be fishing for Cobia out of Lynhaven Inlet in Virginia Beach, VA.
  • Departure time for the FIN FINDER II will vary depending upon the fishing season.  For most of our morning charters, we normally like to leave the dock at 6 AM.
  • Afternoon departure times will vary from 12 noon to 3 PM according to the season and how the bite is at the time of the scheduled charter.
  • We provide all rods and reels, all bait, all tackle and a large fish box w/ICE to keep your catch cool.  No fishing License is required and you are always welcome to bring your own lucky rod and reel.
  • A $300 deposit per trip is required within ten days of booking your charter (please see Contact Information link for mailing address).  Credit Cards are accepted over the phone but check or money order is the preferred method for payment of deposits.
  • Deposits are non-refundable unless at least 30 days of notice are given before the booked date, or if the trip is cancelled by the Captain due to inclement weather.
  • It is also very important to be sure to collect from all of your crew so you don’t get stuck paying the entire bill or end up calling everybody you know the night before the trip, trying to find replacements for your buddies who backed out at the last minute.
  • Call or e mail as early as possible to ensure you can get a prime date, as the prime date when the fishing is red hot book up quickly.
  • The first mate works very hard before, during and after charter trips to ensure you have a successful and fun filled day on the Chesapeake Bay.  A tip of around 20% is customary and expected.
  • Fish Cleaning is available at a nominal charge.

About The Crew

Captain

Captain Lee Tippett grew up fishing the waters of the Patuxent river, first as recreation with his family and then commercially for oysters, crabs and fish. In his early teens, he moved to the Potomac River area where he continued his pursue his passion for working on the water aboard the crabbing boat “Betsy Lynn”. Lee moved on to tournament fishing for Rockfish in 2006. He has had considerable success fishing these Rockfish tournaments and has won or placed in most of the tournaments he has entered. Lee worked as a first mate aboard several of the top charter boats fishing out of Solomons, including “Rod Bender”, “Never-E-Nuff”, “Miss Susie” and most recently FIN FINDER. With a lifetime of fishing experience and 3 full years of working as a first mate, Lee Tippett is now your full time captain aboard FIN FINDER II.

As a father of three, Lee loves to share his passion for being on the water and teaching his children to be great fishermen/fisherwomen. Capt. Lee welcomes children of all ages to come aboard FIN FINDER II for an exciting fishing experience with their family that they will remember forever. Capt. Lee Tippett is a knowledgeable, hardworking, and well respected captain who will go the extra mile to make your day a memorable experience each and every time you charter FIN FINDER II.

First Mate Captain Jason Hiss

First mate/captain Jason Hiss has been fishing his whole life with his family and friends.  His love of fishing drew him to a career on the water and three years ago he earned his USCG Captains license.  He has worked as a first mate for the last 8 years out of Solomon’s and the surrounding waters.  He has mated on several boats out of Solomon’s including Melanie Ann, Miss Susie, Taurus, and Fin Finder.  Jason has a passion for fishing and loves to extend his knowledge to all ages and levels of fisherman.  He especially loves to teach kids and pass his love of fishing onto future generations including his nine year old daughter. With Jason as your first mate or fill in Captain, you can rest assured he will give all he has to provide an eventful, entertaining and fun day on the Bay.
