Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!
Spring is finally here and we cannot possibly think of a better way to kick off the 2008 season. Saturday marked our first trip and the start of our trophy rockfish season was fantastic. After a short run to the fishing grounds, Capt. Sonney and I set out the 21 rod rig only to be quickly rewarded with several fish in the first hour, several reaching forty inches. We quickly released numerous fish and continued to crank until our arms gave out, bringing at least a dozen beautiful rockfish over the rail. After some tougher afternoon trips on Saturday and Sunday the boats diminished and the fish multiplied. This week has been simply fantastic allowing us to catch up to 25 giant trophy rockfish a trip and offering our clients numerous opportunities this week for citation fish (over 40"). Our biggest striper so far measured out at 45 inches and just less than forty pounds. This bubba was one of fifteen fish caught on Tuesday morning and one of the 35 citations caught this week. With mild temperatures approaching and large masses of fish in the head waters and tributaries of the Chesapeake, we expect to see good catches of these bruisers for two to three more weeks. Due to some last minute cancellations and date adjustments we currently have ten trophy season opportunities available as follows… … April 30 AM, May 6 AM or PM, May 7 PM, May 8 AM, May 9PM, May 12 AM or PM, May 13 AM or PM Don't miss out on our light tackle opportunities!! In middle to late May, as these trophies finish their annual spawning migration out of the bay and back into the Atlantic. Our resident population of nice summertime rockfish begin to show up all over the bay, conregating on some of our favorite hotspots making great targets. Although many are sad to see them go, light tackle enthusiasts should get ready as many of these trophies will be caught on their southbound trip while targeting our 18-28 inch resident fish on light spinning gear. As late May and June approach so do our evening trips when the Atlantic Croaker begin their nightly feeding frenzies giving us endless shots at double headers "two at a time" sometimes up to 17 or 18 inches! We will depart around four o'clock in the evening the last week in May and all of June and July giving us enough time to load up on our limit of Rockfish as well as some beautiful "Big ole blues" until the Croakers abandon their daytime hideouts and find their way onto our lines. Prime weekend dates are still available, call today to reserve your trip on the Fin Finder! Thanks to all of those who have made this spring as fun as it has been and we look forward to seeing everyone during the promising 2008 season!!!
